The 11- and 12-year-old UK school children will receive Micro Bit, a stripped-down computer that can be worn on a lanyard. The Micro Bit is designed to serve as an entry point for individuals interested in coding.

Asus to Sport Powerful New Nvidia GPU

Nvidia on Thursday launched the latest in its GTX 900s series of mobile GPUs -- GTX 960m and 950m -- designed to make a gaming laptop as future-proof as possible. Asus' recently unveiled GX501 is one of the machines that already has incorporated the latest Nvidia tech. The new GPUs include such gaming-enhancing features as BatteryBoost, ShadowPlay and Optimus.

Thinness, lightness and tomorrow's technology are its salient features. Its 12-inch Retina display is 0.88 mm thick, and the MacBook itself is 24 percent thinner than the 11-inch MacBook Air.

Valve To Put Steam Behind VR Efforts With New Headset March 27, 2015 Valve on Monday announced that it's getting into the virtual reality hardware business. In a terse tease posted to the Web, the company trumpeted its intentions to reveal its SteamVR hardware system next week at the 2015 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Valve also announced that it is looking for developers and publishers to create content for its new VR hardware system.

Lenovo Rapped for Preinstalling Spyware March 27, 2015 Lenovo has come under fire for preinstalling spyware on some of its laptops. The software, Superfish, uses the same techniques cybercriminals often employ to crack encrypted traffic. "Superfish is purposely designed to bypass the security of HTTPS websites in a manner that would allow malware and attackers to also bypass the security provided by HTTPS," said Bluebox cofounder Adam Ely.

The Om/One
It's tough to innovate on Bluetooth speaker design. You mostly get a rectangular box with a variety of  designs and/or features, like waterproofing. Om/One is a little different. It levitates. In the air. Levitation is where the evolution of speakers is heading, naturally. There aren't many benefits to have your speakers levitate, apart from perhaps eliminating the transmission of sound vibrations to the surface they would normally sit on. Otherwise, it just looks cool.

Thalmic Labs MYO Armband
We've seen the Leap Motion Controller use relatively antique infrared sensors to translate your hand movements into input your computer understands (sort of), but it was limited to say the least. The Myo Armband uses Thalmic Labs' proprietary EMG sensors to sense the electrical activity on your arm's muscles, as well as motions and rotations, to wirelessly control your computer or mobile device.

Earin
The Earin earbuds are the tiniest Bluetooth aptX earbuds we've ever heard about, weighing in at just 0.18 ounce and measuring only 0.78-inch tall and 0.55-inch in diameter. Just in case that's too small, you'll be able to get small Concha locks, which grip the contours of your ear, or you can get a tight fit with the included foam tips. We'll certainly get these in as soon as they're available to hear how big a sound comes out such small earbuds.

Peri Duo
For years, we've been restricted to the iPhone's loudspeaker if we forgot, or couldn't bring along, a separate Bluetooth speaker. No longer. The Peri Duo is a slim iPhone speaker case that connects over Bluetooth or Airplay to play your tunes. It has its own battery, which lets you take off the case to use as a standalone Bluetooth speaker if you so wish. You can also multicast your music to several Duos for a more powerful sound.

Scultpify David 3D Printer
If you've ever worked with spool-fed 3D printers, you'll know they can get finicky sometimes, and they're expensive, too. Sculptify is one of the first 3D printers to use plastic pellets rather than spools. It's actually surprising that pellet-fed 3D printers aren't more common, especially since the majority of our plastic products start out as pellets in manufacturing plants.

Sense
Hello's Sense comes with a sleep tracker called Sleep Pill that attaches to your pillow to track your movement while you sleep using a six-axis accelerometer and gyroscope. The main Sense unit contains ambient light, noise, temperature, humidity, proximity, and particulate sensors to analyze just about everything else that has an impact on your quality of sleep. It relays all the information it collects to your mobile devices via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE.

Sony Action Cam FDR-X1000V
Sony's Action Cam FDR-X1000V will break you free from the confines of 1080p-resolution action footage, and brings you closer to the Ultra-High Definition world of 4K. The Action Cam obviously hasn't been released yet, nor have we reviewed it, but we can tell you now that 4K video is stunning, and once you record your ski trips or scuba dives in UHD, you'll wonder how you used to tolerate regular

Project Ara
What if you could upgrade your phone's processor after the next generation of apps proves too much for it? Or replace its stock camera with a third-party shooter that outclasses even what you'd get on an iPhone? Project Ara is an initiative devised by Google to develop an entirely modular smartphone with components that can easily be swapped out at any time. With the Ara, everything from the case and the display to the speaker and sensors will be completely customizable.

Asus GX500
Asus is already well known for its gaming hardware, but it's pushing things to the next level with its upcoming GX500 laptop. This latest Republic of Gamers model is incredibly thin (just 0.75 inch), unites a top-tier quad-core Intel processor with the latest Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M graphics, and adds a 15.6-inch, 4K IPS display to help make every title look terrific. The company also claims it will be the coolest ultraportable gaming laptop ever with its intelligent dual-fan cooling system, all while weighing only 4.85 pounds.

LG Quantum Dot 4K Ultra HD TV
A quantum dot may sound like something that will take you to a fourth dimension, but it's really a technology that uses microscopic crystals to produce a brighter picture with an extremely wide color gamut and even more accurate colors than the already-brilliant OLED. LG's new 4K TVs will use this technology for superior picture quality, and will also contain no toxic heavy metals such as cadmium.

 Mellow Sous-Vide
Though sous vide machines, which use water to slowly cook food in a sealed plastic bag at a relatively low temperature over a long period of time, are becoming a staple of restaurants, they've had more trouble breaking through to the home kitchen. Mellow might change that. In addition to the usual sous vide feats of cooking your food evenly and letting it retain its moisture, it's also smart, so you'll be able to control the Mellow via your mobile devices.

There are countless ways to relax. For example, you could go on vacation, unwind in the tub, or get lost in a good book. Double Amputee Becomes First to Control Two Robotic Arms with Only His Mind

Baugh, as Johns Hopkins’ Applied Physics Laboratory reports, is the first “bilateral shoulder-level amputee” to wear and control two modular prosthetic limbs at the same time. The technology has been in development for more than a decade. It was funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and was tested on Baugh as part of an experimental program run at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Though his progress is groundbreaking, accomplishing this medical first was no easy feat. Baugh first had to undergo an intense surgery — performed by the institute’s medical director, Albert Chi — that rearranged (in medical terms, “reinnervated”) the nerves in his chest.

“I remember when I first came out from under it, the pain — I don’t even remember the original being that much excruciating pain,” Baugh said in a video released by the university. 

Sony Xperia Z3 scores a record battery life

We are not going to mince words here - Sony is the current king of battery life when it comes to brand-name smartphones. We did our grueling battery benchmark on the Xperia Z3 over the weekend, and it broke all records in its respective category, just as we suspected it would do, given Sony's consistent performance in that department this year.

The phone lasted for nearly nine and a half hours of screen-on time when we ran our tasking battery benchmark, putting it comfortably ahead of any other flagship big-screen phone or phablet we've tested at the moment. 

As mentioned, this is more than any other flagship we've measured so far - phone or phablet - and even more than the Ascend Mate7, which comes equipped with a whopping 4100 mAh juicer, while the Z3 has an "only" 3100 mAh piece in a 7.3mm thin waterproof body. 

The Z3 battery endurance is also better than the one of the Z2, which already has a great battery life, so kudos to Sony here - it managed to squeeze much more life out of a tad smaller battery, compared to the Z2, and make a truly "two-day battery". The charging time, on the other hand, is much longer than the average, at close to four hours with the paltry stock 850 mA charger. 

If you think that what Sony did is by accident, then a simple look at our top ten endurance champs will tell you that this is not the case. Sony phones are currently occupying six of the top ten slots in our battery benchmark ranking, and these range from low-ends, like the Xperia C, through midrangers like the slim T3, all the way to the Xperia Z3 flagship. The "culprit" must be Sony's displays, which might not be the best out there when it comes to color representation and viewing angles, but are apparently using an extremely frugal technology, and screens are the pesky components with the highest battery consumption in our smartphones, so kudos to Sony here.

Battery life

We measure battery life by running a custom web-script, designed to replicate the power consumption of typical real-life usage. All devices that go through the test have their displays set at 200-nit brightness.
